Autumn Term Topic

'Belonging'

This term, your child’s class topic is ‘Belonging’. This exciting, cross-curricular topic encourages children to explore what it means to belong to a family, friendship group, school, community and wider world. Through a range of engaging activities, children will celebrate what makes us unique, while discovering the things that connect us and bring us together.

Children will explore themes such as identity, friendship, relationships, community, culture and diversity, while developing an understanding of the importance of kindness, respect, inclusion and celebrating differences. They will also consider the different groups and communities they belong to and what makes Dowlais a place where everyone can feel welcomed, valued and included.

On our topic immersion day (We Belong Day), children will take part in a range of exciting activities and suggest ‘I wonder...’ questions, which will act as pupil-influenced focuses and help shape the direction of our class topic.

Together, we will celebrate what makes us different, discover what brings us together and learn that everyone has a place where they belong.
